Running Tip Tuesday {Marathon Goals}

Hi friends.  If you checked for my tip last week it was not here.  Sorry!

Why was it missing?  Oh yes, because I got hit by the Sickness and did not have a chance to write it.  So if I was not freaked out enough about running a marathon, now I might have the chance to do it half-healthy. (Praying that I am 100% healthy by Sunday!)

Side note: I ran my fastest 5k ever sick.  I am an overcomer.

I think I blogged last year about how I set my goals for races.  This time around, I am setting time goals and "other" goals.  I want to think about this journey as more than time on a clock.

Here are my goals for this year:

  • I will feel fantastic if I run a 3:53 marathon.
  • I will feel fantastic if I don't have to walk for longer than a minute at a time.
  • I will feel good if I run a marathon in less than 4 hours.
  • I will feel good if I listen to my body and don't do something stupid.
  • I will feel okay if I run faster than I did last year.
  • I will feel okay if I don't have to stop running.

I have two mantras for this year's marathon: 1.) Chuck Norris never ran a marathon.  2.) When I am weak, He is strong.

What are your most inspirational thoughts during a race?

  1. I am getting ready to run my first marathon on April 15th, in hilly St. Louis. I'm excited by scared at the same time. My only goal is to finish and stay under the course minimum (13:43). In our training we've increased our average pace quite a bit over the last three months and we stayed below a 12 min pace during our final big training run of 20 miles last week. We are doing a 5-2 plan. 5 running, 2 walking, etc all throughout the race. I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck with yours!!
